You could have posted your sales information as additional details for free. You would not be spam because your question was legitimate. You can have a tagline on forum posts that include such information or a link to it. As long as you are legitimately participating in the forum conversation and there is no forum rules against it, that is. Don't spam; be a good netizen, and people will tolerate your tag ad.
There are many free sites that allow you to create your own webspace for blogs or hack articles. You can work in a reference to your business in every blog you post, for example.
If there was a free forum specifically for posting direct sales ads, the probably the only people that would go there would be the people wanting to post theirs and nobody would read the others anyway. If you doubt this then create such a forum.

You can also try Orkut or other social networking sites. As far as I know, you can still create a business page on Facebook for free. This is super helpful as a link to refer people to, because facebook is a trusted website.
