The oldest one that became VERY popular was MySpace.

Classmates.com was made in 1995, that's pretty old. There were probably some old research-related sites back in the day, but you'd have to find some old-timers to tell you about those.

In the early days before the Internet, yes there was a time before the Internet, we used our modems to dial up to BBS (Bulletin Board Systems) to be social. They were like the forums of today except one phone number got you onto one BBS.

btw...I'm not old! The Internet has only been around for less than 25 years.
