Do you think the social media: facebook, texting and twitter are ruining or helping relationships? - peachiepie - 05-07-2013 06:11 AM

Once you get it out there on facebook you can't take it back and the whole world can see what you say.
People that are really shy say things they never would in person. Solid relationships that have lasted
years are broken over a few displayed pictures. Budding relationships are stopped before they get a
chance to grow cause of a few misunderstood texts. Sure you can view folks these days, but you really
can't gain that intangible something you get from face to face looking deeply into each others eyes.
The scents, the moist palms all that good old fashioned human emotion stuff. Not to mention the fact
we are losing the art of conversation and school kids can't spell words that are over 4 letters long any
more (lol). When you can text as fast as you blink, why take the time to really stop and think about what
you're saying? I have some close friends that wish they had not let their fingers get them into the mess
they're in now. Even when you gossip face to face you can lie and say you didn't say it (smile).

It depends on how you define relationship. Social media has been scientifically proven to hinder face to face interaction, and it also makes people socially awkward.

And this is why I don't have a social media profile.

I agree. We are being dehumanised. This (un) social media is addictive and we are losing contact with each other. The fashion in Australia now is to drive a fat black four wheel drive that look like a military vehicle. They have black windows, (no doubt clear when inside) but completely shutting the outside world from seeing in. No more watching Mum Dad and the kids off on a picnics, it looks like everyone is either in the Mafia or going to a ruddy funeral. Bring back commonsense.
