I keep clicking on the button to change it, but nothing comes up. I changed my background and now my header doesn't look right with it, but I still can't change it.

Usually when buttons do not work on webpages it either means there is a programming error on the webpage, or the browser you are using has an issue with it.
Have you tried another browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera?
I am a fan of Firefox. I am on my Mac right now using it to write this. Even though Mac's Safari browser is nice, it has problems in the newest version of Mac right now.

I am not getting into the differences with each browser, but if you are using Internet Explorer, just try a different one to see if the problem fixes itself. If not, there may be a problem with your java.
A lot of buttons and controls on webpages are written in java/javascript. If your java has an issue, then you can update your java here: http://www.java.com
