I want to start an organization to help struggling young mothers. Help? - Xtina - 05-08-2013 11:17 PM

I want to start collecting baby things and maternity wear and eventually distribute them to local teen and single mothers. I just thought of this literally like an hour ago so I have absolutely no details worked out. Any ideas about how to organize, get donations, recruit volunteers and network with mothers in need is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would go up to your local community center and have them help you get things set up they will because it will only make them look better, Smile

Why not volunteer for a similar organization first... then you will know exactly what you need.

You're welcome

To start an organization you have to prove to the irs that no other organization is providing that service. You need to register your nonprofit with the IRS. You need a group of at least 10 people to get this off the ground. You need a place to store donations, money for ads. Until you get your tax exempt number from the IRS you cannot solicit donations. Call Social Services and see if this type of organization already exists. If it does then volunteer
