How do websites that are free to users make money? - yet-knish! - 05-09-2013 12:58 PM

It just occurred to me that I have no idea. How do sites like Facebook and Youtube generate so much money?

advertisements . notice all the side bar ads ? the ads before partners' videos ? yea , they get payed for each click that page gets while that advert is showing .

Advertisers pay them to feature their ads/aps/programs/product on their websites. Sites like Youtube and Facebook can demand premium rates because they can not only host the ads, they can make sure they are targeted towards specific age groups or audiences.

Advertisements

Companies pay to advertise there products on facebook.

YouTube for example has advertisements before some
of their videos and also during their videos, which is how
they generate profit
