Kindles are locked into the Amazon store system with a modified Android operating system, stereo speakers don't thrill me, headphones seem like the standard.

You can root the Kindle to make it a standard Android, losing the cloud support (but it can be restored as well), I assume Google Play has more apps and games than Amazon.

( I have a Nexus)

Kindles are more for kids, there restricted and everything, nexus is for anyone and everyone, kids won't understand it though. i'd get the nexus its more customizable and you can make it more personal

Games and apps:
Kindle Fire HD has over 60k apps which is lower compared to Nexus 7 but you do have the option to sideaload app on both.

Facebook:
Works the same

Speed:
Nexus 7 has more power while Kindle Fire HD is not bad at all.

Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7, should be helpful:

Kindle Fire HD is more in favor for Movie watchers and Book readers. I.e It has Dual wifi antenna for streaming HD movies without buffering sign appearing again and again. Plus the Dolby audio is pretty good compared to other tablets.

Nexus 7 is more of a power based tablet which has quadcore processor and more apps.
