Is it illegal for an employer to ask you to lie about your duties? - Alicia - 10-12-2012 01:21 PM

I know we live in a corporate world where people are constantly under appreciated and end up doing work other people take credit for but i just have a question - is it illegal for them to ask you to lie and say you didnt do something. Since our new marketing manager I have taken on many duties that were never part of my job description originally, I have to put all the sales / events on our website and social media sites - which i dont mind at all. It can be kinda fun =) what i do mind is that people are asking me to put things on that I have already done (so clearly she doesnt check it) ANYWAYS my other boss was talking about how iv been so great doing all this but then she said "well just so you know [ the marketing manager] is really suppose to be the only one doing it, so you know if anyone asks..." so im signing on under her name and doing it all and then im not suppose to tell anyone? she doesnt even check it. is that illegal for them to ask me that? Probably not but i thought i'd ask.

its not against the law. But it is unethical. if I were you I would make sure her boss knew you were doing the job and ask for a $50 a week raise. and just so youre protected if they say youre not doing it change the password to one only you know. youll get the raise and the credit. you deserve a bump in pay.
