they wish to get you to find more,and more traffic, to sell advertising stuff to, then they,are enlisted to find more people,etc etc=
like feeding pigeon which reproduce geometrically,
sharing stuff w 3d parties may mean you personal info gets where it doesn't belong
don't 'friend' more than a few people

Hello Jake, basically you signed up for a service or website, that website want to share some information with your account like your wall, so your friends can see it, probably to marketing purposes.

Its very common practice in the business world.
