It is not autism or Asperger's syndrom. I agree with you dad about the "computer generation". The main communication is text, Facebook, YouTube, myspace, skype, twitter, and etc. People rarely need to meet people eye to eye even between close friends. Only solution I could think of is to practice eye contact and get gradually comfortable with it. Good luck!

One of my colleagues has the same, she is smart and convencing person when she talks but never makes an eye contact. Recently when I got closer to her I found that she often underestimates herself and thinks ppl has much more values than her.

You sound much too aware to have autism, and more self-conscious about what you think they will see in you. The connection of having eye contact might make you feel vulnerable.

It's too easy to put a label on some difficulty, thus excusing oneself from ever "overcoming," or working on these uncomfortable situations. Some things just take practice and a willingness to put forth an effort.

I used to have the same issue; my honest opinion is that your dad's right. If you feel nervous when looking at somebody, you just have to face it until it becomes normal. Try nonchalantly looking at yourself in the mirror and then other people when talking just looking at their eyes without speaking for a good solid 2 seconds then look off to the side for a few. You can get over the anxiety in no time, trust me.
