How do I use wordpress? - Chris - 10-12-2012 03:02 PM

I want to start a blog to market myself as a social media specialist. I am not a social media specialist yet, but I plan to be soon. I have never had a blog or followed any blogs, but I feel that having a blog is extremely important for me to reach my end goal. Wordpress seams to be the largest blogging site on the web and I would like to start my blog using it. Since I have no experience with blogs, I have no idea what I am doing. I would love to hear any tips on how to create a successful blog. Including your blog in your answer would be a big plus. Thank you everyone that helps
I am talking about wordpess.com, not wordpress.org

You did the best decision in choosing wordpress as your blogging platform. It's not just the most popular blogging platform it's also the most user-friendly although I have to say that you can't really customize much in a Wordpress.com blog.

To start,
1) Choose a theme that will suit the niche where you will be focusing your blog into. There are any available on wordpress.com. Some are free and some require payment.

2) Connect with other wordpress bloggers that are of the same niche/interests with you. You can comment on their blogs and reblog their posts and vice versa.

3) You can customize the fonts and CSS for your site to be more unique but you have to pay a few bucks.

4) When you post images, always make sure to fill in the title, alt and description because this will make your images and your site as a whole search-friendly.

If you need further help in wordpress and customization techniques, get help from a web developer.

Go to wordpress.com they have instructions on their site. However, if you're just starting out, then I suggest that you go with blogger, because they are a lot easier to work with. Blogger is also a lot easier to monetize. So, if you're starting out stick with blogger. Then when you create your blogs content. You can monetize it using Google ads and in-text advertising. This should bring in a decent income.
