What effect are facebook, twitter, ect. having on people in today's society?

Addiction. They'll tend to check up on it every chance they get, when they're bored etc, especially kids! They'll never leave the phone out of their sight. Also, it could lead to chber bullying for teens.

Social networking takes over your life completely. I have had friends who have deleted or stopped using certain accounts because they interfere with reality; once they stopped using these services, they found more time on their hands and more things to do. It's different for everyone, but yes, social networking takes up a lot of time and energy, sometimes even negative energy. Harassment and violence can happen on these sites also, unfortunately.
