I'm talking about the green circle that appears beside your chat name, does it take a while to disappear or does it disappear as soon as you log out? browser you are using? I don't want people to think I'm online when I'm not.

No it doesn't, you disappear into thin air and can sneak around and do what you like without any interruptions. : )
