No I'm pretty sure that they won't be notified. Because if u think about it, when people go on your profile you don't get notified. So I don't think they will be notified if you check the friendship between them

No, they won't. I have done the same thing numerous times and it all works out just fine. I mean what's the harm in checking the friendship of two Facebook friends. I mean really! C'mon!! So even if they could find out which Facebook won't notify them they probably wouldn't giver a crap. They have a load of other stuff more important to worry and deal about and especially care about! Don't worry about it. Worry about more important things. Have fun on Facebook!
