I did the "view my profile as it looks to others" and I didn't see the message button. So where can I find that?

you dont see the message button when you view your own profile, even as how the public sees it, because you cannot message yourself
either that, or you are under 18, and the public cannot message you because of your age

Go to your settings&privacy->privacy->who can send you facebook messges.change it to everyone.Then everyone can send you messages,even if they are not your friends.
