Why not? I don't think its weird how do you make friends otherwise. Its up to you. This is a girl i'd take it? Then just to add if she's about your age then its ok.

it's not really weird, lots of people try it, but most people dont realize that when you send a message to someone who isnt on your friends list, it goes to their other messages folder (the facebook spam folder) so they wont even know it's there... no notification for it at all

I find it weird and creepy but if you message just hi or something, then it's fine. Don't say things like "hot" or "sexy" then it's just weird and you'll scare them off.

its not weird. instead it is really professional. if you send a friend request to a person you don't know how they will know about you. so sending msg is not a weird thing
