I need to increase qualified traffic. Like-- how do I do a press release,social marketing etc.

You could have taken that $500 and bought newspaper ads, flyers, etc... I am marketing my own site and am having great success. All you need to do is believe in yourself, your product (your site) and don't quit. Everything takes time.!!

If you were ripped off, I certainly hope you get your money back.
There are many different ways to market a site and to drive more traffic. Many of them are great little "do it yourself" projects. Some of the strategies, depending on how much time and energy you have, can be effectively (and inexpensively) outsourced.
You don't necessarily need a high-dollar consultant. Do your research, find a fistful of ways to drive traffic that appeal to you, and get to work. Once you start to see results or are willing to invest a little in the project (to a non-scammer this time, I hope!), start looking for ways to have others do the hard work for you.
