I know how to change it back to the same picture but how do I do so and also keep the likes that were on it too?

You go to your "Profile Pictures" album, click on the picture you want as your profile pic, then click "Options" then "Make Profile Picture." A message will pop up stating that you had used the picture before and asking if you want to use it again. Click "yes", and there is your profile picture! The "likes" and comments for the pic will still be there.
