Can the police trace a deleted facebook account? - Amethyst - 07-21-2013 07:19 AM

Like my friend is in this private situation and she deleted her Facebook so her bullies wouldn't find anything about her. But since Facebook only temporary deletes Facebook accounts, are the police to still be able to track it down? Plus give me some additional information too please Smile

They probably will, but they rarely go that far.

Nothing is deleted permanently, records of things must be held for a particular amount of time. The police could easily gain access if they wanted to by gaining a warrant from a judge to look through the facebook account or even just ask facebook to work with them.

A deleted facebook account is the property of facebook and yes, the police could gain access to her deleted account and get information that would involve any police business. The internet provider is also required to retain internet records of web sites visited for a amount of time specified by the government. So that's another avenue a person's online activities can be traced.
