I can't post a status on Jeremy Shada's fanpage or even comment, but I can like his status

You have to like the page. Even then the page Admins can choose if people are allowed to comment. If what you are talking about is an actually persons profile and you follow them. Its the same problem, they have to allow followers to comment. Adding them as a friend will work. If it is an actual page then there is nothing you can do.
