Facebook is just a social networking site. You can do anything you want on it. If you are 'really not getting the point of the thing', simply don't get a facebook account.

I don't think Facebook is stupid, the only thing that is stupid is the user when they just want to get more attention. Usually they just want to know how many like would they get. That's they usually want.
