Do you agree/disagree with candidates who have expressed willingness to privatize Social Security? - firefly - 10-12-2012 07:31 PM

Sharron Angle in Nevada, Ken Buck in Colorado, and Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania have all talked
about privatizing Social Security. Considering what the stock market did to us in 2009, do you think that's a good and safe idea? What other options do you think exist?

Totally disagree.

SS is a Ponzi scheme that needs serious reform.

Bush tried to privatize Social Security. That's just code for "rip off everyone and give it to my rich Wall Street buddies). It's a darned good thing Americans were paying attention on that one. A cry of NO went up from coast to coast. If Bush had succeeded, everyone's SS would have been wiped out in the market.

SS is good as it is for the next 30 years. To make SS viable for all eternity, all they need to do is lift the cap.

I totally disagree with the entire Tea Party/extremist Republican agenda which is:

Tea Party Agenda
(The "Green Witch" nailed this one and I put in a couple of additions)

1. Get rid of Medicare
2. Get rid of public education
3. Get rid of Social Security
4. Get rid of College Student Loans
5. Get rid of Obama Care
6. Get rid of Financial Reform
7. Get rid of the 14th Amendment
8. Get rid of the 16th Amendment
9. Get rid of the 1st Amendment
10. Get rid of Unemployment Insurance
11. Get rid of Abortion Rights
12. Get rid of Civil Rights Laws
13. Get rid of Equal Pay Laws
14. Get rid of Minimum Wage
15. Get rid of Welfare
16. Get rid of Food Stamps
17. Make Homelessness a Felony.

Social security is one of those lose-lose situations.
If you keep it, you will have to pay more and more.
If you privatize it, you run the risk of paying more than the first option.
If you get rid of it, the elderly will haunt you for the rest of your life.
I pity the poor soul tasked with dealing with it.

Are you willing to gamble that you won't be homeless in the street when your'e 80 years old?

- grandma zaza - 10-12-2012 07:39 PM

Agree 100%.

The return from the government is about 2%. If you privatized, the return would be an average of 8% or more AND the government would not be able to keep any of your unused funds.

SS is the biggest ponzi scheme ever created.

Over all a 12% return on average since 1929 till now.Uncle Sammy wont pay that.I like it .

- CAustin IV - 10-12-2012 07:39 PM

"Privatized Social Security" is abolished social security. The entire principle of the system is that it's a government regulated investment, giving it the advantage of size as well as the investors the security of accountability and the fact that we're all in it together.

It is a terrible idea.

The dow jones plunged 25% during bush's 8 years.

We would of lost trillions.

And the wall street guys would get 10% of our money in commissions.

Social security was created so these people could not screw us
