I made a twitter today and I already got 4 followers (I don't know any of the. Though). I want to be an author and I recently started writing my first novel, so it would be great if I got a lot of followers so that the book would sell well. I'm not really sure what I should tweet about or how to get more followers.

Getting more followers on Twitter takes time especially you're new there. But you don't want to force them to be your followers, hence, just let them.
If you want them to notice your novel, make sure to have a blog because that's one way of showing them how good you can be as a writer.
When it comes to tweets, don't worry about it. Make sure your Twitter page has balance, not all writing stuff. Have a little fun here and there, post some quotes, Twitpic the stuff you love. Just tweet what you think people will like. Don't forget to communicate because communication is key. Don't be afraid to befriend anyone. Be nice and friendly. Also, just be yourself. You will attract more Twitter followers by just being who you really are.

Getting many folloers usually takes sometime...
Be sure to add some TRENDING HASHTAGS whenever u tweet something..
If possible try posting about ur novel name or any hashtag of it(like #MyNovel) in all the social networking sites u have...
