If the texting doesn't work on the iphone could the facebook messaging possibly work still?

Texting requires service or wifi (for messaging to other apple products). FB messaging requires some type of connection. If you don't have service & you are connected to wifi. If you do have service it should work. Basically, yes but not unless said connections are currently available.
