I think it's fine to as long as you have the permission to own the gun and you aren't holding it in a way that might be misunderstood.

I don't see why not. It's a material object, just like a cabbage or a hammer. If someone has personal objections to seeing guns, that's their problem -- guns ain't an illegal substance or criminal act.
