Whenever i try to send i direct message the way i have tried it it never works so i was wondering if anyone knows how to do it definately.

You can only direct message [or DM] someone if you're following them, and they're following you.
To DM them, go to their twitter page, and on the right hand side, in the bar, above where it shows who they're following, click the "message" button, and you should be able to DM them.

You should login your account on twitter :
you may click your followers link, click on any follower username started with @ , your follower's page will open, on right sidebar panel you will see DM or "message user" click on it and write direct message.
