A family member might shut it down Facebook won't do it themselves

No. They probably would not know that person is dead.. I think it just stays there.

No it will just stay there unused forever unless someone hacks it.

No, her account will still be there because Facebook has no way of knowing she's passed away. I'm very sorry about the loss of your friend.
