You cannot, FB is a social media, not "secret social"media. Time to grow up a little, be proud of your friends rather than lie about them, or deny who they are.

if you and your friend have no mutual friends you can go to your profile, click on friends (by your profile picture) and then click the pencil on the right, then click on edit privacy. Under the section "Friend List
Who can see your friend list?" Choose "only me" from the drop down menu.
The only way to hide your friend is to hide all your friends. If you and a friend have a mutual friend, they will be able to see mutual friends only and no other friends, but your friends number will still show up (so if you have 900 friends it will still say 900). This is the only way to "partially" hide it.
