Are social media sites becoming Big Brother? - kingofsports114 - 10-13-2012 01:27 AM

The George Orwell novel 1984 talks about how someone named Big Brother can watch and hear every little thing you say. With companies, governments, and schools looking at social media sites and stalking employees, students, and potential criminals, doesn't it seem as if social media sites such as facebook, myspace, and twitter are becoming a Big Brother that people submit to?

interesting analogy. I tend to agree with you, this phenomenon has been becoming very strange. I don't know where our societies are heading to, with no privacy at all for any individual. I had a facebook account, but I closed it when I noticed people were stalking on my profile. :-s weird

If you kept with what's going on credit card, insurance, even employers are making use of these sights to check on people. So watch what you say.

Maybe. I even encountered this news yesterday about someone working at Google who spied on some underage teens and got fired for doing so. The biggest question comes to mind, " Who owns the internet?" It's quite creepy, but if someone out there is watching all of us - then, are we really free these days? Maybe, it's time to simply hit the shutdown button and unplug. Anyway, always keep in mind that whatever you post on social networking sites will be available for everyone to see so you better think twice.
