How can I block chat notifications from appearing in my Facebook message box? - odawg1218 - 08-14-2013 03:26 PM
I'm having an ongoing group conversation and want to stop notifications from popping up in my message box, as it distracts me from getting anything else done on the site.
As far as I can tell there is no option in Facebook itself, but I'm perfectly happy to use a solution involving Social Fixer or Facebook Purity.

1. Go to your inbox [ http://www.facebook.com/messages/ ].
2. Select the group conversation from the list of messages.
3. The conversation will appear on the center of the page. On top, there will be an "Actions" button with a gear icon. Click on that.
4. Select "Mute Conversation..." then a pop-up will ask if you will continue or cancel. Click "Mute".
Now, you won't hear any sounds when someone says something in the conversation. You won't be distracted by it anymore. Good luck
