If you’re logging in and begin seeing this message, usually it means that Facebook is making an improvement and adjustment to the particular database your account is stored. So as they are doing this improvement, you woun’t be able to access your Facebook account. Good news is that this Facebook maintenance wouldn’t last for more that a few hours.

Never had any trouble. Didn't know a server was down, they're running OK over this side of the pond!
