I saw a status saying "Today <<<<<<" and lots of tweets having the <s in it. What does it mean?

Its means "less than" or "sucks"
Example: "Today <<<" means "Todays sucks"
"Today >" is like "Today is a great day"

I haven't seen it. > originally means less than. Maybe there meaning that as an arrow like <3 is a heart and : ) is a smiley face.
