No, it will not inform them.
The only way your friend can find out is by checking to see if you're in their followers list anymore.
I'd just unfollow them, and tell them that you wanted to clear up your wall feed if they ask.

No, he don't get any notification,so he don't know about it. But if he check his followers list then he may come to know about it. Two types of follower are their public follower and friends follower. All the friends in Facebook are Friend follower, so if he check the friend follower list then he know you have unfollowed him.
