I would think "media representation" means pictures, cartoons, advertisements, printed materials--basically anything you'd find on tv, in movies, on the radio, or in newspapers and magazines.

For example, if an upscale store only ever used one ethnic group in its ads, it might indicate that the store assumes only people of that ethnic group will be able to afford to shop there.

it's asking for a movie, tv show, or some other kind of media that shows inequalities among social groups etc.

a great example of this is the movie Crash. It depicts the stereotypes that races and classes place upon one another in society.

Oh a good one was on cnn.com today. It involved Alicia Keyes and this interview she did with a magazine. I forget the name of the magazine but it was something like "bender"
Ms. Keyes says that she was misquoted and the magazine says they stand by their story. It was about the origins of gangsta rap and the magazines quotes her as saying something to the effect that it is the invention of the government so that black people will go around killing each other. It was just such a crazy thing and she is denying it and the magazine is standing by its story. But the thing that really upset me is that no one talked about the social inequality of the whole idea behind it. Basically it is asking people to buy into the idea that an entire race of people is so stupid that they could be influenced by music to kill each other. I mean, that is just appalling to me. The premise is just appalling. Talk about media representation and social inequality. It is just appalling. I can't say that enough.
