Is it ok to add my teacher on Facebook? - Biscuit Boy - 08-22-2013 09:28 AM

She has left like about a year ago now. Do you think it's acceptable lol? I'm just afraid it might be awkward since there will be no work to talk about initially.
I'm 18

i'm friends with several of my teachers on facebook. i think its fine. it may depend on how old you are though.

It is absolutely not acceptable for the reason being if she is still a teacher she could loose her job and possibly get arrested.

NOT without her permission. You don't know what she is doing, where she is or who she is with. If you put her on it without her permission and she finds out, she can take legal action. People start a social network and think it is fun and silly but what they don't realize is this follows them for the rest of their life. Employers will look you up and deny you employment based on what is on your account.

Yes, it's fine.
If she feels it's inappropriate because she is still a teacher and you are still a student (even if it's not in the same place), she will simply not accept your friend request. No harm will be done.

Some teachers are find being FB friends with students. Others do not even have FB accounts for the sole reason of not wanting students to know anything about their personal lives. Many are somewhere in between.

It's probably not a good idea if she is currently your teacher. But if she's a former teacher who isn't working at the school anymore, or you've already graduated, then it's fine.
