If I comment on a post or a status it just seems to tell everyone about it, obviously I want to comment or like some thing's without it needing to tell everyone all of the time, can't find it in the settings how I'd change it?

there should be a pencil image or plus sign in the top corner of the box just click that and change the settings

You have to set up your friends into groups in order for your posts to not be seen by everyone. In the comment box, bottom right, click that for group options or custom to just specific people.
