So much hype around "social media" at the moment- anyone out there with any tips for a small business? - Billy - 10-13-2012 05:24 AM

my wife and her brother own a jewellery shop in Dublin which is a little out of the way, and advertising budgets are limited... any ideas on how we can promote it using social media techniques? Anyone had any success with this?

Many thanks for any suggestions

There are a number of way a small business can benefit from social media.

I stumbled upon this handy guide written by Constructaquote on the very subject

Two of the main business to business sites are Ecademy and Linked In (I can send you invites to both, if you like). They're quite good for making contacts (you do get a lot of people who just want to add you for the sake of their number of contacts) and those contacts are useful for spreading the word about what you do.

Is the jewellery aimed at a particular market? For example, if it was particularly suitable for the over 50's, there are several forums for that age bracket and all you need is someone in that age group to give you a presence on there.

Some forums will do a feature on you if you have a particular story to tell. A bit like getting press coverage.

Good luck!

Hi,

I would suggest that you take a look at this post which covers 4 Practical Ways of Using Twitter for Business. It's good to keep a watch out for the post there as it's specifically for small businesses.
