i see a lot of people where you can either click 'add friend' or 'follow'. i dont know how to make that option avsilable on my facebook. can someone please help me? thank you

You are only aloud to do that on Facebook if your 18 and over. Other than that you go settings and somewhere in there it'll ask you if you want to allow followers you simply click yes .

Go to your Account Settings Than Go to Followers Or It may Be Subscribers Than Under There you Should Find the Option to Allow Followers
