Lately I notice you can put smileys on chat and put more detail in statuses such as 'listening to or 'watching' and stuff like that. How do I update it so I can do that too on a computer?

You can only add what you are 'listening' to or 'watching' while you are on a computer. You should see it on the bottom of where you update your status.
