This came from an 'argument' that happened between 2 websites: 4chan & Tumblr
If you don't know what 4chan is, its an image board, and anonymous people post images or random questions. I don't know the exact story of how 'What Is Air' happened, but it was something like this: 4chan people got angry at Tumblr people because Tumblr's started posting random questions and were copying things of 4chan like 'memes', so 4chan's revenge on Tumblr was to get Tumblr shutdown, which they were successful in doing so. Then, Tumblrs revenge on 4chan was to go onto 4chan and Omegle posting the question 'What Is Air' and then they started posting printscreens on their Tumblrs of them doing so. It was a lot of chaos and pretty stupid but very hilarious. Twitter people have obviously coppied of Tumblr people (or its a lot of the same people).

Can I just add: 4chan FTW. It came before Tumblr and I agree that Tumblr copy way too many things off 4chan.
Oh and snog is an english way of saying 'make out'.
