Men vs women on Facebook: Uploading photos & likes? - Howie - 08-30-2013 09:26 PM

How come whenever a woman uploads a new photo of themselves (professional or self-taken portrait), it gets 20-100 likes? While if a dude uploads a GQ shot & happens to look like Ryan Gosling, it will get 2-15 (Or 25 if they're lucky). Why is that? It's a bit strange...

1. Obviously males won't comment/like it because it would seem weird and/or gay. And they don't care.

2. Because women stick together like packs of wolves & generally don't like men very much.

It's a double standard thing - and not that I'm proud of it but one I fall into.

It's all good for women to be concerned with beauty and appearance, to look themselves in the mirror and take photos trying to impress... that's expected.
A guy doing it, well it is different. Guys are supposed to be rugged, not pretty - or care if they are pretty.

Double-standard... admittedly so. But one that strongly exists no different that a girl posting 'am I pretty' pics here getting looked at and a guy looking for props about his looks just seems desperate and odd.

Maybe it will change over time, maybe it won't but in essence and brutally honestly it's simply a matter of what you expect from one gender and expectations on another.
I'm good looking, I don't need validation... and I'd just feel like of silly seeking it. I'm not at all suggesting I'm right, I'm just saying that's what society and culture has made me.

As for the likes difference...
Girls complimenting girls is okay; guys complimenting girls is okay - both socially acceptable.
A guys pic on the other hand... if a guy acknowledges another guy is good looking - that's just odd... if a girl publicly says a guy is good looking, she appears desperate publically like she wants something. Am I wrong? (no I'm not Smile

It's the social values and stigmas of our own making.
