I want to be able to deactivate it so no one can view my profile but be able to reactivate it later, is that possible?

That's the only way you can do it, you never actually "delete" your profile, you just shut it down until you're ready to come back.

You go into your account settings and deactivate it you can't delete your face book

just sign out and go back when you want.

Go to Settings > General Settings > Deactivate Account.
This is what We normally do to take a break from Facebook.
And, yes you can delete your facebook by following this link https://www.facebook.com/help/224562897555674
and CLICK ON "Let us Know"
your account will get deleted permanently in 14 Days.
