I briefly looked at friends photos and they are missing too.

I'll keep this nice and basic rather than you falling asleep at a answer:
- maybe your pictures have been reported and removed by facebook itself
- maybe you are using facebook on a different device to which you uploaded the pictures which can sometimes hide certain pictures. Don't know why its just a glitch in facebooks servers.
- maybe someone has been removing them by going on to your account?
