I mean, I have this friend from about 10 years ago and I am not sure whether it is her on facebook or not, so I don't want to send her a friend request.
The problem is, as well as all her information being private (except to friends) I am also unable to message her.
What else can I do?

You can see her username on address bar , using that you can mail her from your mail account. username@facebook.com is the mail id provided by Facebook.
