Explain how mass media and social media influence voter behaviors and political processes and how the importance of each has changed.
Print media (newspapers and magazines)
Television
On-line media (Social networks, blogs, Twitter, on-line journals, peer-reviewed websites, etc.)

The mass media reports what they want. They always hit on the negative comments one candidate makes against another rather than reporting on what that candidate believes on the key issues and they are not a good source of complete information because there is inequity in coverage. Some networks have a slant to the left or to the right and those stations make no attempt to give all candidates the same coverage. Fox News criticizes Democrats more than Republicans and MSNBC criticizes Republicans more than Democrats. CNN is more moderate to liberal in their reporting. The big networks (CBS, NBC, and ABC) have a limited amount of time to have better coverage. Social media has some impact but like people talk with like people. Blogs usually take a liberal or conservative line and people who identify themselves are the ones who go on those. Few of those change anyone's mind. Too many voters are hardcore Democrats or Republicans and will vote for those candidates they favor without doing anything to educate themselves on the issues because of their party loyalty. That is why I am an independent.

Mass media get to show a story over and over and over again.

Whether it's right or wrong, they keep airing it.

Social media gets to talk about a story over and over again--right or wrong.
