I just don't want one of my friends to get my updates like whenever i like something or comments on something.. is there a way to do that without blocking the person ?

under who can see my stuff select Custom
Under dont share with these type the names of the person from who you wanna hide your future posts
Select the person when the dropdown options appear & click on save changes

You cant control that because it depends on the post audience likes and comments of that post appear in others newsfeed. Add that person to your restricted list, then they can see only your public posts likes and comments. .
