Is there a way so that if I add a new friend to my friends list it won't show up on my current friend's newsfeed/timeline?

Then you have to hide your Friends list (shown only for mutual friends):
Go to your Timeline ➤ click Friends ➤ click pencil icon on top right ➤ click Edit Privacy ➤ change to Only Me.
