I have an instagram which is connected to facebook and all my friends keep following me and I've tried to disconnect it by going on my facebook apps and then clicking disconnect and then I tried to disconnect it in the share settings then facebook on instagram but people are still following me what else do I need to do to disconnect?

You don't, once you have connected Facebook and Instagram you have made a life-long blood pact that can never be renewed.

Instagram is now owned by Facebook, so I don't think there's any way to unlink the two.
