Facebook, is it really necessary? - Nikki - 11-10-2013 03:40 AM

Back in the day, when My Space was the thing, I remember everyone had to have one. Everyone had to post pictures of themselves, their lives etc.

Facebook of course is the same thing. People list their full names, what they do for work, where they work, they have several photos of themselves, they constantly annotate where they are, what they are doing, they have pictures of their car etc.

Honestly, way back when My Space was around, this just seemed like a bad idea. And I still think Facebook is a bad idea. Is it really a wise to post all that information about yourself on the internet? Anyone can access that information, and use it maliciously against you. Not to mention, just the lack of privacy. I don't want people knowing what the inside my my home looks like, where it is, what my kids look like, have a picture of my car with license plate in the picture. Political views. All that just seems stupid. Not to mention, posting pictures of yourself online, and all that, also just seems childish to me. I know everyone says it is a great way to keep in touch, well so is email, and writing letters, and using a phone, or visiting, all which don't tell the whole world all your personal information.

Any comments?

No, it isn't necessary. We don't need it. It's still nice to be able to see what your friends are up to and if you put your settings on private I don't think it's so bad... Although it's unnecessary to put your phone number and locations on there. It's also ridiculous how anybody can use your photos for ads and commercials.

So what's your point? A lot of things in life aren't "necessary" but people want them anyway. If they aren't for you, fine. But is this an attempt to interfere with what others want? If so than I object to your point of view.

Their posting things is their choice not yours. I think your post is a "childish" attempt to control others who don't know you and can't defend themselves. (I hate ad hominem attacks.)

If you don't keep your house clean, don't post pix of it on Facebook. If your kids are ugly, don't post pix on Facebook.

You asked for comments, thems my 2 cents.
