That just happened to me a few minutes ago. I haven't checked back, but it happens to me occasionally. Just give it some time, it could be that a lot of people are trying to use instagram at once.

Well recently it's rumor is going around ... And it seems to be that a couple of accounts on ig were hacked and so was instagram .. It will take SEVERAL months for ig to be recovered .. Ig was hacked by a group called hype hacked

Yah lol same here u answered my question i dont know if it was hacked but i closed the app down and will try many hours later hoping itll work! Disaster i spend half of my day instagramming!!!!
